What Makes A High Yield Autoflower?
Not every autoflower is capable of producing exceptional harvests. When selecting plants for our high yield breeding programme, we’re looking for genetics that naturally develop vigorous growth, strong branching, large flower sites and the ability to support heavy bud production. Together, these characteristics allow our highest-yielding strains to consistently produce larger harvests than the average autoflower when grown under the right conditions.
What is the Most That an Autoflower Can Yield?
One of the biggest changes we’ve seen over the last 15 years is just how much autoflower yields have improved. Early autoflowers were prized for speed rather than production, but modern genetics are capable of producing harvests that rival many photoperiod varieties when grown in the right conditions.
In our experience, yield is determined by genetics first and growing conditions second. Under ideal indoor conditions many autoflowers comfortably produce 400–600g/m², while some of the largest plants in our collection are capable of producing up to 200g per plant outdoors. Those figures require strong lighting, healthy root development and good environmental control, but they demonstrate just how far modern autoflower breeding has progressed.
Can High Yield Autoflowers Rival Photoperiod Plants?
Back in 2008, when we first began breeding autoflowers, most growers accepted that choosing an autoflower meant accepting a much smaller harvest. Early genetics simply couldn’t match the size and production of traditional photoperiod plants.
Over the last 15+ years, that’s been one of the biggest areas we’ve focused on improving. By continually selecting larger, more vigorous plants over successive generations, we’ve been able to dramatically increase the yield potential of our autoflower genetics while retaining the speed and simplicity that made them so popular in the first place.
Today, under the right growing conditions, many of our highest-yielding autoflower strains are capable of producing harvests that rival photoperiod varieties—something that simply wasn’t possible when Auto Seeds first began.
Which High Yield Autoflower Should You Choose?
If your priority is maximum plant size, our unique Ultra Lemon Haze is a semi auto that was first introduced in 2012 and remains one of the largest autoflower plants we’ve ever bred. By extending the vegetative period beyond that of a traditional autoflower, it bridges the gap between autoflower speed and photoperiod size, making it an excellent choice for growers chasing exceptional yields.
If you’d rather combine big yields with extreme potency, Permanent Marker Auto is one of the standout performers in our modern collection. With THC levels reaching up to 28% alongside impressive production, it demonstrates just how far high yield autoflower breeding has progressed.
